My Engagement Ring

I wanted to do a post on my engagement ring, simply because before my fiance and I got engaged, I was very unsure of what I wanted.  I was unsure if I wanted simple or ornate, real diamond or gemstone, gold or rose gold, etc, etc.  I searched a TON of sites and stores and couldn't find anything that I fell in love with.  Eventually we decided upon the ring below and I couldn't be more happy about our decision.

This is my 1.8 c cushion cut, petite pave Moissanite ring with a blossom halo.  Because I generally tend to like large rings, I just couldn't see myself with a tiny little diamond, which really is all we would have been able to afford.  To be honest, I was never really one for diamonds, since I find them very overpriced and not altogether worth it.  Moissanite is a cheaper alternateive and really looks very much like a diamond, but without the price tag.  This is called a MIRA moissanite, which is an upgraded Moissy stone, which lightens it somewhat since moissy can occasionally be somewhat "cloudy".  This ring is nothing short of brilliant and sparkles amazingly, as much so as a diamond.

This ring will not set you back nearly as much as a typical diamond ring and is soooo, soo worth the price.  I got mine from www.moissaniteco.com and would highly recommend this site. If you are interested in finding out more about moissanite engagement rings, check out the forums on www.weddingbee.com.  Many brides these days are taking the moissy route since you get more bang for your buck and there really is very little difference between the two stones.  If you have any questions about my ring, my experience with moissaniteco, etc, feel free to comment and I will share!

    1. Hi, So sorry for the delay in my response! My account didn't show me that there were any comments until today! The style number is eng178_diamond-I got diamonds on the band and the bloom. Still a great price. Been engaged for almost a year and the ring is still perfect. My future mother in law though it was too thin a band but it is holding up well and I'm so glad I went this route. Good luck on your ring (if you haven't already purchased!)

  2. This is a great choice for an engagement ring. You definitely saved on money by going the moissanite route instead of diamond. The cut is very charming, and it looks great on your finger. I think it’s a very beautiful mark of the most meaningful part of your relationship, and something that you could pass on as an heirloom to your children, and their children, and so on.

  3. We just can’t help but be very meticulous at this stage. Haha. We need to feel a connection with the ring, which represents our commitment. That’s a very nice pick. :) The slender band under the big stone looks compelling. Even with its structure, I’m sure it would endure all the wear and tear with all your loving attention. :)

    1. It's been about a year now and the band has held up incredible well and is still perfect! And believe me, I am not a dainty lady so this is a testament to the craftmanship of MoissaniteCo's product.

    1. Agreed! I would much prefer to spend the money on a down payment for a home or for the wedding (although we are going to DIY route for our wedding as well)

  6. I love your ring and have been debating on this and one other style I was hoping you could tell me your ring size? One of the settings I'm considering is close to that setting but only comes in 8mm the 2 ct equivalent and I'm worried about the size being too big.

    1. Hi Jessica,

I am normally a size 6 on my ring finger but taking into account the thin band I purchased the ring in a size 5.5 which fits very well! Another tip is to order the ring sizer for free from the website ( if you are ordering from Moissaniteco) as they will also send you a coupon for 5% off if it is your first purchase!

  7. Hi,
I too love your ring and am wondering what your finger size is for reference to see how big of a stone I should get. I have been looking at rings for over a year trying to find "the one" and yours is absolutely stunning. Thank you SO MUCH for posting and I eagerly await your reply! Glad to hear it is holding up with the petite band......it definitely adds to the ring. :)

    1. Hi there! I am normally a size 6 but got the ring in a size 5.5 because of the slim band. I have quite large hands and this stone still looks like a great size on my finger. I get comments on the ring weekly and so many people admire the thinness of the band because it is so dainty and really makes the stone "pop". As I told the previous poster, if you are ordering from MoissaniteCo, be sure to order a complimentary ring sizer as they will send a coupon!

      Good luck!

  8. Thanks so much..if you don't mind may I ask where you added the extra stones? Or did you switch out the stones from Moissanite to Diamonds. I am speaking with them now and they are ready to put together in two weeks! Yay so excited! Great advise on sizer. :)

  10. Hi!! I am getting this ring as well! Do you feel like you could go a bit larger with the center stone? I have the same size fingers and am debating between this size or the next size up (7.5mm/2.2ct). I am just afraid of it looking costume-jewelry-ish! Also, do you have any thoughts on the height of it? I am worried about it being too tall :( Thank you for your input!!!

    1. Hi Amanda. I feel like a larger stone wound have been too much for me personally. I have seen some women who have gone larger and it looks great if that is their taste- however, people who see my ring generally have a pretty surprised reaction at the size so I feel like any larger would have been too much. The height took some getting used to but I love it now and get comments on it all the time. It's a wonderful ring and I am so happy I went with this style.

  11. Hello from Ottawa! I know this may sound like a terrible question, but how long would you say your fingers are? do you have relatively long fingers, or petite hands? I'm asking so that I can have an idea of how big a 1.8 carat looks like on when on a woman's hand. Like an early commenter I am on the fence between 1.8 and 2.2 carat, I want it to be dramatic but I also don't want it to be costume-like. Sometimes a 2.2 looks on point online, but other times it doesn't.
